Australia, Argentina set up HWL title clash

Defending champions Australia will meet Olympic champions Argentina in the final of the Men’s Hockey World League Finals here at Kalinga Hockey Stadium tomorrow. Australia set up the summit clash by drubbing Germany 3-0 in the second semifinal today. Dylan Wotherspoon, Jeremy Hayward and Tom Wickham scored the three goals for Australia.

Unfortunately Germany played the semifinal match with a depleated side, missing five players, among whom one was injured and the others unable to play due to illness. Losing semifinalists Germany and India will meet each other in the bronze-medal match tomorrow. Host India had lost to Olympic champions Argentina by a solitary goal in the first semifinal earlier yesterday.

Earlier in the day, Olympic silver medalists Belgium edged out Spain 1-0 to finish fifth in the competition. Sebastien Dockier’s field-goal in the fourth minute proved to be the difference.
